We are very excited to bring in our first coffee from Uganda! This coffee is grown in an area near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a protected primeval forest that reaches elevations up to 2,600 meters. Our friends at Cafe Imports worked with the Gorilla Summit Coffee project to bring in this exceptional coffee. Gorilla Summit Coffee is a project that started in the village of Kanugu in 2012 by Gerald K. Mbabazi with the purpose of finding a way to get coffee farmers to earn better income for their coffees. Before the project was started, coffees grown and harvested in that area had been of low quality and were sold locally for extremely low prices. By offering training in improved farming and harvesting techniques, building a cherry receiving station, and installing modern processing equipment, Gorilla Summit Coffee has helped bring this region of Uganda to the forefront of specialty coffee in the country. In addition to higher overall prices for their coffee, farmers are also eligible for other livelihood-improvement programs such as educational opportunities for youth, diversification projects like chicken farming, and access to community health care.
When we first tasted this coffee, we loved the complex and dessert-like qualities. We noted how tart and juicy it was with flavors of strawberry and lime sorbet, chocolate truffle, and amaretto. It makes for a great treat, whether it's for you or someone special!
All coffees are available in whole bean only.
