This is our last offering from Kenya for the season!

The Mesgo Estate was founded in 1982 by the late Mr. and Mrs. Mugo. Since 2009, the farm has been managed by their three sons. Located just over 6 miles outside of the town of Embu, the coffee farm is part of the family business alongside other businesses in textile, restaurants, real estate, property management and horticulture. Over the last decade the sons have been planting shade trees in the lands' rich, reddish-brown, volcanic soil to promote biodiversity and ecosystems on the land and around the production area. They produce only one cultivar of coffee, SL-34, well known and highly prized in Kenya for its aromatic and flavor qualities. With their 52 hectares of farm land they produce around 80,000 kilograms of coffee a year, 240 of which was purchased by us at Bootstrap from the last harvest. Mesgo Estate's seed to cup story is marked by an effort to maintain and increase quality. During the harvest, only the ripest of cherries are harvested, picked and transported.  They are pulped on the same day and then dried on raised beds for 12-20 days. The coffees are closely monitored during the drying period to avoid re-wetting and to ensure slow and even drying. From there the coffee is taken to Nyeri to be milled.

All this care really comes through in the cup! This coffee is lively and popping with flavors of ruby red grapefruit, rosé, and lemon curd with a full, wine-like body and a crisp, tart acidity.  Phenomenal!

All coffees are available in whole bean only.
