Here is another great offering from our friends at Gold Mountain Coffee Growers (our second offering of the year!). Gold Mountain Coffee Growers is a group of coffee farmers that was founded in 2002 by Benjamin Weiner. While working on a thesis paper dealing with the economics of coffee growing in Nicaragua, he decided to purchase a farm and join a cooperative. Shortly after joining the co-op, he became aware that farmers needed a more direct way to reach out to roasters and gain the needed profitability to have a successful coffee business. From that recognized need, Gold Mountain Coffee Growers was born.  The group has since grown and developed into a social enterprise that connects farmers and coffee roasters while implementing a rigorous quality control program and a transparency which ensures prices for farmers that allow them to operate a sustainable business through high quality coffee. Some unique practices that it implements with its partner farms are asking pickers to wear bracelets the color of perfectly ripe cherries in order to aid in selective harvesting, using refractometers to measure the sugar content of the cherries, and separating every day’s pickings by farm and variety and cupping the results for quality.

When we were tasting many samples from the group the coffee from Los Milagros Farm stood out to us. The owners of the farm, husband and wife Mario and Angelica, earn their living growing coffee alongside a wide variety of other vegetables. They named their farm Los Milagros, or "The Miracles," as a testament to all the crops that they grow. The success and popularity of their coffee has inspired them to convert more of their farm to coffee production.

While tasting the first roasts of these coffees, we notes the flavors of baked apple and brown sugar coupled with orange peel and other warming spices. The coffee has a creamy and round body with a crisp finish. We think this is a great coffee to enjoy during the changing fall weather!

We are extremely proud to offer this direct relationship coffee!

All coffees are available in whole bean only.
