In 1993 the group of producers named “Promoter of Cooperative Development of Las Segovias, Sociedad Anónima” now known as PRODECOOP was started to aid coffee producers with the urgent need to sell their coffee. Since then the organization has grown into 38 grassroots cooperatives made up of 2,300 small producers, 27% of whom are women. The cooperative and coffee producers are based in the departments of Esteli, Madriz, and Nueva Segovia in northern Nicaragua and export 30,000 coffee bags, half of which is organic and Fair Trade certified. Over its existence, PRODECOOP has developed a long line of programs that aim to support its members in a multitude of different ways. They are able to fund these programs using their Fair Trade premium. The initiatives include supporting educational opportunities for children, providing loans to women in and affiliated with the organization, providing cervical-cancer screenings and other health-care services, offering member education regarding pest control and fertilization, and creating and supporting systems to increase food security for the communities.
Their care and attention is shown in the cup by showcasing flavors of caramel, apple, and lemon supported by a big and juicy body and a nutty and lightly herbal finish. This coffee is a great example of a classic Nicaraguan coffee profile done right, with a clean, simple and balanced flavor profile! Enjoy!
This coffee is Fair Trade Certified and Certified Organic.
All coffees are available in whole bean only.
